Public Bridges
Planning and Design: This phase includes feasibility studies, environmental impact assessments, and public consultations. Engineers and architects design the bridge, considering factors such as location, purpose, traffic load, and aesthetic elements
Private Bridges
Permits and Approvals: Obtain necessary permits from local authorities. This may include environmental permits, zoning approvals, and adherence to safety regulations. For waterways, permits from agencies like the Army Corps of Engineers might be needed.
Water Control
Water control structures in Southwest Florida range from large flood control installations managed by the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) to smaller county-level weirs. These structures are essential for managing the region’s unique water challenges.
Pedestrian
Steel truss bridges are better in flood-prone areas like SWFL because of their high strength-to-weight ratio and resilience to harsh weather. They are prefabricated off-site, allowing rapid assembly and installation, minimizing the traffic disruptions and construction time.
Custom Projects
TMC has tackled many custom projects successfully.
Toll plazas, tunnels, sheet pile cofferdams and large retaining walls are all examples of such projects. Combining custom bridge designs with defined water control measures, Thomas Marine Construction can get the job done
FULL SERVICE BRIDGE & STRUCTURAL CONSTRUCTOR
Thomas Marine Construction is a comprehensive bridge and structure builder. Each team is led by a superintendent with 10 to 30 years of experience.
Since 1982, TMC has built bridges, created water control structures, dredged waterways, and constructed various structures throughout Southwest Florida for local, state, and federal governments, as well as many private companies.
The company employs project managers, engineers, carpenters, equipment operators, laborers, accounting staff, and an EEO officer. Many employees have been with us for 10 to 25 years.
Thomas Marine Construction owns all the necessary equipment (many shown in photos on this site) to perform our prequalified work. Daily, our job sites include track and truck cranes, pile hammers, bridge deck machines, excavators, demolition hammers, front-end loaders, compaction tools, steel forms, sectional barges, trucks, welders, and generators.
Each crew operates independently, ready to work far from power sources or in urban areas.
Even in non-design build projects, Thomas Marine’s “whole project approach” helps us anticipate permitting and design issues during planning, preventing costly revisions during construction.
